Featured Storytellers

Donald Davis

Telling stories is in Donald Davis’ blood. Growing up listening to his Uncle Frank, “a man who talked in stories,” Mr./ Davis learned that a world of adventure, legend, and magic could be explored every time he told a story. He is the author of numerous publications and books, a guest host on the National Public Radio Program, Good Evening, and former Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the National Storytelling Association. As a former Methodist minister and master teacher of storytelling workshops and classes, Donald Davis has devoted his life to the art of storytelling.

Motoko

Motoko combines the tantalizingly enigmatic art of mime and the ancient art of oral storytelling together in an exceptional blend that captivates the hearts and minds of audiences everywhere.  A native of Osaka, Japan, this award winning storyteller has professionally performed since 1993. She was trained under the late master mime Tony Montanaro, who was considered one of the greatest mimes of the 20th century. She has graced many venues, including theaters, museums, festivals, and has even appeared on the beloved TV show, Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood. Her CD, The Promise of Chrysanthemums, won a 2002 Parents’ Choice Silver Honor Award and a 2003 Storytelling World Award.

David Holt

With a background as rich as the craft which he loves and practices, David Holt is a renowned Appalachian folk artist and storyteller. Winner of four Grammy awards, this musician, storyteller, historian, and TV host plays a variety of traditional acoustic and other (not so traditional) instruments ranging from the banjo, slide guitar, and harmonica to bones, spoons, jaw harps, and even the paper bag. Prepare to be enchanted by a remarkable entertainer who learned the art of folk storytelling first hand from banjoists, singing coal miners, and traditional folk musicians throughout Appalachia.

Bil Lepp

A good storyteller uses lies to tell the truth. Bil Lepp is a Champion Liar and his tall tales have been energizing audiences throughout the country for over 15 years. He has won many awards and recognitions in his career as a storyteller and book author, and was the champion of the West Virginia Liars Contest five times. A Lone Star Storytelling crowd favorite, Bil returns to Frisco to share his talent of turning a “low-down lie” into a “grand and glorious creation” (Duke Divinity Magazine).
