Art of Storytelling
|
"Storytelling is an art form that transcends age, race, and culture. It goes right to the heart of the human experience." -Emmy Award winning storyteller, Bobby Norfolk
| Once upon a time, the written word didn't exist. No pens, no paper, no symbols to represent sounds. No books to record history. The only place to preserve history was in the minds of those who listened to stories. Tales were told to teach history and life's lessons, and were handed down from generation to generation, preserving the past. Books and technology now preserve our history, and the oral traditions of the past have become an art form that engages the listener in tales that entertain and connect us as human beings. At festivals across the country, professional storytellers recount tales, both old and new, conveying universal truths, cultural adventures, fables, and comedic tales.
Storytelling is a relatively unknown form of entertainment, but once listeners experience the magic of the live performance, lifelong devotees are born. It's an art form that needs three elements: a teller, a listener, and a good story. Stories are carefully crafted by the teller and rely on listeners' creativity and imagination, making it a personal and unique experience for each individual.
